The Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) was established following the Prime Minister’s announcement of changes to parliamentarians’ work expenses on 13 January 2017.

From 1 July 2017, the IPEA has been established as a Commonwealth statutory authority.

IPEA has been established under the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority Act 2017 as an independent statutory authority with advisory, reporting and auditing responsibilities for the work expenses of parliamentarians and their staff.

IPEA is an entity for the purposes of the Senate Order on non-corporate Commonwealth entity contracts and for the period 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017 IPEA has no contracts to report with a consideration of $100,000 or more (GST inclusive).
